When Instagram launched its Stories feature a few years ago, most of us dismissed it as a copycat of Snapchat. Fast-forward a few years, and now it’s safe to say Stories isn’t just here to stay, but is a powerful tool for nonprofits to engage with their supporters. Here at Goodworld we’re very excited about our new tool for Instagram, Swipe Up to Donate, which you can learn about here!

There are countless ways you can increase engagement with your Instagram audience and drive more donations. To help you generate even more support for your nonprofit, here are 5 creative ways to promote your nonprofit’s mission using Instagram Stories:

Use Interactive Tools

Bring your supporters along the journey with you. Instagram is constantly adding fun, interactive features such as polls, GIFS, and quizzes to make your Stories even more engaging. You can add funky stickers to posts, encourage your followers to ask questions about your nonprofit, or even run competitions. This makes your followers feel involved in your nonprofit’s mission, especially when you have followers from all around the world!

You can find all these tools by clicking at the top of your screen after you’ve taken a picture or video.

Go Behind the Scenes

While your main feed on Instagram is best used for big milestones and powerful pictures, giving your followers an authentic, intimate look into the hard work your nonprofit does is a great way to show them the importance of supporting your cause. You can use both pictures and videos to give a first hand look at the impact your organization is making. Include a Swipe Up to Donate call to action at the end so your followers can give the moment they’re inspired!

Create a Weekly Feature

Give your followers something to look forward to every week! Create a regular feature that gives your Instagram account consistent content. If you’re an animal rescue, how about an Animal of the Week? Or celebrate the hard work people do for your organization with Volunteer of the Week. Here at Goodworld, we have Spotlight Saturday, where we feature one of our awesome nonprofit partners each week!

We pick a nonprofit partner to feature every week so our followers can discover even more great causes!

Run a Campaign

Story campaigns are one of the best ways to generate engagement amongst your follower base and create a sense of community. Get creative with it! Ask your followers to post something on their own Story with your nonprofit tagged in it e.g. “Post a picture of you making your best best puppy dog eyes and tag us! We’ll repost them all and pick a winner at the end of the day to win a special prize pack!”. Not only is it a fun way to get followers engaging with your account, but it’s also great way for you to get to know the people who are supporting your organization.

Use Story Highlights

We love Story Highlights at Goodworld, as they’re a great way to show Story content from your organization, even after the 24-hour time limit has ended. You can create custom cover photos (check ours out here!) or choose a photo from your Stories archive. Below are some examples of our partners using Stories in some awesome ways, from highlighting big events, to showcasing past campaigns, or even just sharing information about the organization!

With these tips, you’ll no doubt be well on your way to making your Instagram account even more awesome! If you’d like to try our Swipe Up to Donate feature, send an email to dale@goodworld.me and we’ll help get you started!
